We haven’t updated our SobeFit magazine Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy Weight Loss Challenge in awhile because I think it’s over – we did not lose 50 pounds combined – we lost over 30 pounds combined which isn’t too shabby. Marta Montenegro, the founder of SobeFit, is our coach and she comes on periodically to help us get back on track. Before the guests arrived we discussed how the funniest new TV show ABC’s Modern Family (on Wednesdays at 9pm) spoofed the Fat Guy’s pole walking regimen. First you have to check out this show because it is hilarious. But second and most importantly when you see the guy in the Pole Walking get up – that is exactly how the Fat Guy looks when he pole walks. College Student Karla Walsh Shares Her Struggle With An Eating Disorder

On today’s show Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy had on Karla Walsh, an Iowa State University student and blogger who shared her struggle with an eating disorder. Karla is a senior working towards her health education specialist certification. When Karla hit 180 pounds on the scale she took matters into her own hands to lose weight. At first she was able to lose weight in a pretty healthy manner, but then things started spiraling out of control. She ended up losing half her body weight before she was able to get things back under control. She explained that working with a psychologist who understood what she was going through made all the difference for her. She is now at a healthy weight of around 120 pounds. Are You Working Out Too Hard?

Perceived exertion rate is an important component in determining if you’ll stay compliant with an exercise program. When someone starts exercising they think I’ll go nuts and exercise for an hour instead of a few minutes. They typically get sore and/or injured then quit. Randy Karp Says You’re Misinformed About Food

On today’s show Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy had on nutrition and human behavior expert Randy Karp joined us. He talked all about how we are totally misinformed about food. For example he says cooking with unstable vegetable oils is bad for you. Instead cook in high heat with extra virgin coconut oil. And be careful with your olive oil. Most olive oils are devoid of health benefits, especially when heated. When asked if he could only eat one food he said it would be avocado.  Regarding fish he said that the pro’s of eating fish are that they eat algae which is good for you but the cons are that they also live in water that has toxins. So choose your fish wisely. On his website he has lots of information about healthy eating and healthy foods. He produces his own line of extra virgin olive oil which he makes in very small quantities to ensure quality. And a new product called Just Like Sugar that has only 1 calorie in 5 lbs.
