Tuesday, August 31st, 2010 6:50 am

On today’s show Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy had on Katy Bowman founder of the Restorative Exercise Institute. She helps her clients increase body awareness, decrease chronic pain, increase bone density and improve metabolic health. Kay says that just as there is an optimal alignment for your car there is optimal alignment for your body. Most problems she says start at your feel and cause a domino effect throughout your body. Foot problems can cause knee problems which can cause hip and back problems. She gave the quick tip to try spacers between your toes to see if that helps decrease foot pain. She says sitting too much shortens muscles and she believes that standing desks should be mandatory. She shared some more tips about the importance of stretching – tight hamstrings and calves pulls down your shoulders. Also sliding your head back like you have a double chin helps your back as well. Her dvd series Get Aligned and Well with Katy teaches you how proper alignment can improve all kinds of chronic conditions like pelvic floor disorders, migraines, even diabetes. Katy looks at the body like a mechanic looks at a car. Katy’s series of 14 Aligned and Well dvds address all kinds of chronic ailments and diseases with simple stretches. They are available at www.alignedandwell.com. Katy’s blog is www.katysays.com.
